If your kind of workout involves box jumps, burpees and battle ropes, then this is the training shoe for you.
I’m calling it. The Free Transform Flyknit is Nike’s best women’s training shoe. It’s flexible, lightweight and supportive and will work as hard as you do during your toughest indoor workouts. The Free Transform does exactly what its name describes – the outsole expands, contracts and moves with your foot in every direction.
The first thing you’ll notice is its sock-like upper. The shoe has no tongue and is literally meant to be pulled on like a sock. The laces unconventionally run diagonally up the shoe to keep your foot secure. The Flyknit upper sits snug around the ankle which eliminate heel slippage but I’d recommend wearing thick sport socks to maintain that form fitting feel from ankle to toe.
The hero of this shoe is its flexible and stable foundation. The tri-star, tessellating grooves expands and contracts in every direction to disperse pressure around the feet, enhancing stability. The sole is extremely flexible allowing for all types of twists, turns and jumps which makes it perfect for cardio and high intensity workouts. The contrasting rubber pods around the sides of the shoe, provide extra cushioning to your heels and your toes. As the outsole is quite lightweight and thin, the shoe is best kept for indoor gym style workouts The sole has great grip on the rubber gym flooring which makes it ideal for lots of jumping and fast feet action.
Due to its Flyknit construction, if you have wide feet, I’d suggest going up 1/2 a size as it can feel quite tight around the balls of your feet but otherwise the Flywire cables should loosen and tighten with your foot’s national motion. While I haven’t tried the highly praised Flyknit Agility, I stand by Free Transform Flyknit as my indoor training shoe of choice.
